Frazee-Vergas schools seek additional state aid

FRAZEE, Minn. — Rising costs are putting pressure on Frazee-Vergas Public Schools. Now, a referendum could help ease that burden. The district is asking voters on Nov. 3 to approve a change to how it collects existing school taxes. That would allow it to qualify for about $230,000 a year in additional state aid. The district says the proposal would have no net impact on local property taxes. Superintendent Terry Karger says the additional funding would make a significant difference. "While $230,000 is smaller than some of the other schools are seeking. To us, it's monumental. It's an ability for us to keep things going in the right direction," Karger said. Karger says transportation, heating and fuel costs are among the district's growing expenses. ]]>
